Project objectives
The interior design project for the Bank’s mezzanine means to solve two main issues, givig a strong signal to the site’s ‘pulsating heart’, the hall on the mezzanine. Here, hidden by the existing false ceiling but visible from the windows above, is an iron-and-glass skylight which had been designed and set in the same period of the building. It was unused and rotten and its restoration seemed complex and costly. However, we thought of maintaining the idea of a skylight, thus the project of an internal ‘court of light’, empty and zenithally lit. The 45° rotation of the new skylight confers a strong sign to the plan whilst becoming the central functional nucleus: cashiers to the public, self serving machines, back office, international office.
